HELP please. EGG have re-instated my direct debit.

Hi
We have just started our DMP, I cancelled all my direct debits and sent cheques for this month. By chance I looked at my direct debit list yesterday to find Egg had reinstated my direct debits.
Is this legal?
How can I stop it happening again?
I cancelled it again online but am concerned they could reinstate it again nearer to the payment time when I would not have time to cancel it as already in the banks system.
Thank you for any advice given.

Direct Debits are a two way thing, if they want a direct debit you have to agree to it, i had to sign my vodafone DD about 6 times because it just wouldn't work.

I would get in touch with your bank and say you never gave Egg permission to set-up there subsequent direct Debits on your account.

If you have not already done so I would make sure that you put it in writing to the bank that you are cancelling the direct debit. You can cancel a DD at any time and they should reinstate it without your authority.

    The letter should contain:
the name of the organisation being paid
your bank or building society account number
    the name(s) on the account
the branch sort code (see your cheque book)
your customer reference with the organisation (if possible).

As i understand it you are supposed to notify the company that the DD will be cancelled as well as the bank. Did you do this yet?

AS said, if you cancel in writing with proof you have done so then they are not entitled to reinstate it without permission.

    Plus the DD guarantee applies.
