The difference between Barclays base rate and the BoE base rate is an academic one - it's not like Barclays or Woolwich's SVR. Their base rate is what almost all their products' rates are linked to, including commercial overdrafts and loans, and they aren't going to vary that from the BoE one.

    Exactly-

Very similar to Bank of Scotland's products tracking the Bank of Scotland base rate.

    Academic but pointless.

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!

OK, so there's never been an instance when the Barclay's rate has been above that of the official repo rate?

If not, I extend my apologies to Barclays.

Sounds like a potential get out clause to me though...

The Barclay's BBBR sounds like an artifical, academic , pompous rate that is exactly the same as another. What next ? Issue their own currency ? Do they have a parallel monetary policy committee ? They may well get caught out if they mention tracker products in adverts and don't quote exactly what the rate tracks or create an impression that they track BofE instead of their own rate and this rate tracks the BofE rate indirectly.
J_B (BBBR BofE rate tracker ?)

I believe that all the clearing banks quote their own "base rate". In the olden days, at least, they all used to publish adverts in the papers each time there was a BoE base rate change stating that "Barclays' base rate has changed", "Midland's base rate has changed" etc. All very pointless.
