  • Thanks to everybogy for there replys

The letter that the bailiff left yesterday said it was acting on a liabillity order from the magistraits court, Does this mean they have right of entry ?

I am going to phone the council on tuesday to see if i can put them off just for a while so that i could look at bankruptcy as i think now this is the only option.

once again thanks to everybody I know i'm not the only one to go through this but as i' sure you all know when its happening to you it does feel like a very lonely place to be.

a liability order is issued by a magistrates court after they have summoned you about not paying the rates. essential that you phone the council on tuesday. normally the liability order would lead to a demand to provide information about your earnings, outgoings, family situation so they can decide how 'best' to recover the money from you.

its not clear whether they will have instructed bailiffs yet but in any event they have no right to force entry your property, so dont let them in. Remember bailiffs can walk in unlocked doors /windows so make sure you secure your property. if you do decide to speak to them do it through window or go outside and close and lock your door etc.
hopeful however, you can sort it out with the council.
    best of luck.
