if abroad who can file for you?

hello
who can file for bankruptcy on your behalf if you live abroad? Would you have to use myvesta or similar or can someone else attend at the high court for you? Would they need a power of attorney or do they just show up with your documents and payments?

hi hot97i if you to fiel for BR you have to present yourselves in court there is no way out of this i am afraid. trust me it is not that bad and the process is painless at court, although i cannot say the same about taking the decision to go BR.

Oh don't pay for any company to prepare your BR for you , trust me you can do it yourselves with the help of this board and it is for free !

it is better you keep the money yourselve so you can pay the BR fee rather than to give to some dodgy company trying to make a mint out of you.

good luck and feel free to ask any question.

    Hi,

As you mention its the High court can I ask are you considering making yourself BR due to HMRC?

Only reason I ask is that if this is the case, and you wait for them to pursue BR, which they will, then you need not attend, the outcome will be the same.

You can give someone power of attorney to attend on your behalf, but it has to be at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. We have had a couple of members here who have done this successfully.

I'll see if I can find their threads for you.

    thanks peachyprice and InTheBrownStuff

I mentioned the High Court as I lived in London and my partner is in London, and I was advised the High Court covers London.

PoA seems to be the way forward. thanks again.
  • Hi there,

We have paid a fee to The Bankruptcy Advisory Service and given PoA for them to petition for us. Expensive when you are broke but much cheaper for us than cost of flying back to the UK from Oz.

    Best wishes with it all.

Sure, about £500 each on top of court costs.
