Who's ringing who?

Got home from work and dialled 1471 as I do most days by habit I guess, and the last number that rang today was 0000 000 000.

Any ideas please...Father Christmas perhaps?

Best to make a nice cup of tea or something when you get home.

    And relax.

Stop dialing 1471. If it's important they'll write to you :)

The 000 etc. number is generated by a call from a bunch of shysters trying to sort out your debt problems. It doesn't matter if you have debt problems or not, they will cold call you anyway and, once on their list, will continue to do so ad infinitum.
They mask their calling number to avoid being traced by the OFT or FSA, as cold calling by financial service companies is now against their licencing terms.

They tell you that they can help you avoid paying your credit card debts on what is a technicality but charge you an exorbitant up-front fee to register with them so that they can start the checking process. Later, after taking the fee, they will tell you that your particular debts are not covered by the technicality but you can still avoid them by entering into an IVA (next step to bankruptcy) but, of course, they want more money up front for that, too.

I've had calls from them for three years now. It's no good arguing with them as they won't stop calling you (Telephone Preference Service is totally ignored). Either use caller identification and don't pick up the phone or just put the phone down on them as soon as you are sure it is them.

You cant be sure of that unless you answer the phone. Their is more then one company presenting/spoofing this number.;)

    See: http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/0000000000
Note some of these cases are in the USA.

OTOH, a call with such an obviously-spoofed CLI can safely be ignored if it's seen on the display. No legitimate company would need to mask its CLI.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

They will still be a bunch of shysters, though - otherwise what is the reason for masking their number?
