Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.

Hmm, yes, that's what I thought when mine turned 10. Then when she was 12 and 13 I went round proudly saying how civilised she seemed to be compared to some of her friends, who were having tantrums and being rude to their parents, etc. She was very mature, in all senses of the word, and very sensible and conscientious, without being in any way uncool, of course...

I assumed she'd got through it early, but I think I got a little too smug, because when she hit 14 - almost to the day - she suddenly started wanting to go out every day after school to hang around with her mates, sprouted a fully integrated social life that had NOTHING to do with us at home, admitted that OF COURSE she had kissed boys before, and no, not just a peck on the cheek, and actually said, 'You don't understand me!' in a fit of pique after I had enforced some simply inexcusable rule about coming home from a local concert BEFORE the pubs turned out.

I still trust her to be sensible about most things, though, she's doing well at school and isn't too moody (unless she's being told she can't do something she's set her heart on), but BOY, did I get a wake up call!

She's really embarrassed about the 'You don't understand me' though, because she's read a couple of teen-parenting books, and she hates to be predictable! ;D

(I read one called 'I hate you, get out of my life, but would you do my washing first', which is hysterically funny, but very apt.)
