Cashing my Policy

Options
Hey guys.

I'm in a bit mild panic

I've decided to cash in the endownment policy I have, that used to be linked to the house (I changed it a couple of years ago and decided to try and keep on.)

I need to send the policy back to Norwich Union (it is an old General Accident policy)

The document I have found in my filing has ' your policy from General Accident Life' across the top but COPY - THIS IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT across the bottom.

it's 8 years since I saw this last

is this my copy of the policy that was sent by GA and what I need to send back (ie Norwich Union have the actual, this is my copy of it)

or

is this a copy of the policy and should I have another copy elsewhere that doesnt have COPY - THIS IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT on the bottom that needs to be sent back ?

I cant find another without COPY on it at the moment but could I be looking for something that doesnt exist ? and should send this back ?

Thanks for your advice

Tpaz

They used to send 2 out - one marked copy , if it was purcahsed via an adviser ( tied or IFA) GA would usually send both to the adviser - they might have sent one ( the original ) to the lender or solicitor

If these avenues don't get it back, then they will usually just get you to sign a form to say original is missing ( and not lodged as security)

Sounds like the endowment was originally assigned to the lender. If so, you'll need to get a note from them to the provider authorising the surrender of the policy befoe the latter will give you the money.

Call the provider to check that this is the case..
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

    Thanks for your replies,

as I say it used to be tied to the mortgage

I remember when we switched from endowment to repayment Halifax sent a letter to Norwich Union to state that they had no interest in the Endowment anymore so that should already be on our records.

I'll be contacting Norwich Union in the morning to see what they say.

    Again

    Thank you
