Mortgage 6 years after Bankruptcy

Hello

Once the bankrupcy has droped off of your credit file how can mortgage companies find out you have been bankrupt in the first place?

Are you legally bound to disclose this?

If they ask it, you have to disclose it.

However, hopefully, after 6 years, it should not cause too much of a problem if a lender wants to lend.

  • Help and advise needed please!!

I applied for a mortgage with the Halifax in April this year after being refused by Barclays due to being made bankcrupt in 2004 which was discharged in 2005. I was totally upfront with the mortgage advisor anyway my application went through no problem and they even let my open a current account once this was done (I could not open one with them before due to my bankcrupcy). Anyway my completion date was today and my solicitor phoned me this afternoon to say they bankcrupcy was not disclosed to Head Office and the Halifax would not complete until it was investigated!! As you can imagine I am in shock as I disclosed this to the mortgage advisor and two other members of staff who helped set up my current account and do not know what to do next - what if they do not give me my mortgage now i have paid out on surveys and solicitors - I could cry honest I could - and to top it all the mortgage advisor is on holiday till Thursday!! any advise would be most welcome thanks
  • Whoa that sounds mega stressful!
