Hiya, I used to work in the claims dept of a PMI (private medical insurance) company. Just to let you know that NONE of our policies covered any chronic conditions or anything related to it - even if the condition is not excluded specifically from cover. It was a long time ago but i believe the statement we had to use when denying claims was that the policy is designed to cover the treatment and cure of short term curable medical conditions or something along those lines. Please check the exclusions part of your policy wording it may well exclude treatment chronic conditions. If you do not have a copy of your policy wording call up and ask for one and read it carefully - knowing what i know having worked there you need to read all the exclusions so carefully.

Good luck with all the savings.

    Hiya Kar
At the moment the medical insurance has been paying out for the same conditions for about 15 years. I have been advised that if I ever left them i'd never get such a good policy again but when my dad took it out for me as a child I think it had an agreement in it that I could claim for life. At least that's what I believe to be the case and they've never queried anything. We pay a lot for the policy but we probably claim around £20 000 a year for various consultations, operations, scans etc. I appreciate your concerns and the minute they stop paying out i'll stop the insurance!

    Hi & welcome!
May be worth you looking at changing pet insurance for the well pets...I just saved £8 a month changing from petplan to M&S but left my poorly cat with old insurers as it would have been excluded from new one...agree with boiler cover etc, water rates...if you have a good accountant he/she should be able to creatively account for quite a bit - or so I am told!!

    Hiya fishface

Sadly none of our animals are 'well' animals. Between them they have diabetes, epilepsy and cancer and we only have two cats and a dog! You could say that we're a tad unlucky but saying that, they're all very loving, thank goodness!!!! If we ever get another animal is will be an elderly cat from a rescue centre that pays the vet bills as no one else will rehome them.

OH's home from work and he's behind me on us stopping spending so everything's going in a book from now on.

    Have a good weekend everyone.
