Someone using my address to get mobile phone contracts, please help!

Options
An ex boyfriend of mine who lived at my address briefly from March 07 to August 07 has been getting out mobile phone contracts using my address so the bills although in his name are coming to my address. I cancelled one but he just got out another. I queried it and they said he must be using his driving license to get them which has my address on it becuase he didnt change it. He lives no where near me now and even moved out of the country for a year. I have emailed DVLA but not sure if it was the right thing to do...I need advice on how to stop him from doing this...please help.

Contact police most definately. He is obtaining goods/services by deception.

I have emailed the DVLA but what can they do if he isn't using his driving licence for driving. He seems to be using it just to get the phone contracts...2 so far in the last few weeks and the only reason I knew is because the bills came to my address. It makes me wonder what else he has done recently. He previously tried to get a loan out using my address but that was in 2007. I was told when i queried why they let him have the phone in an area when the address is quite far away...they replied he could have just said he was on holiday So it's that easy!

He is using his license for identification including his current address. So if the DVLA update their records so he is no longer living at your address, then that removes one way off him obtaining goods by deception. As they won't be able to verify his address.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • it is illegal to have your driving licence address different from your current address, contact the police.

Update...I am still waiting to hear from DVLA and I have talked to the police this morning and unless he has huge amounts of money outstanding against my address then I can't do much about it until he is caught out with his driving license...They have issued a crime number tho and told me what to do with any more letters which may come (which is to return to sender as unknown at this address). I am in the process of getting a credit report through callcredit so hopefully will see that today.

DVLA said they can't do anything as he is using it for id purposes, it is up to the individual person to change their address. Still no credit report (online) not sure why. Basically I can't do anything about it until something major happens!

Do you know where any of his family live? Do you know the details of his car (make & reg number)? You could pass those on to the police and ask them to put these details on record. If he's been a naughty boy fraud-wise, he will no doubt commit traffic offences at some point and they would be able to nab him with those details.

He won't drive a car as he is too afraid...he did ride a motorbike briefly in the last 2 years. He has had 2 different names and bragged about taking peoples money out of their accounts when working for a huge credit card company down south. I have to sit and wait to see what he does next. I have passed all the details onto the police but he has to be caught out for something to happen. I think it is really bad that someone can get away with using your address and you cant do much about it!

Then you will have to sit and wait. Keep all letters you may receive that show he is up to no good, keep a log of all incidents and phone calls as they happen. Then you will have a collection of evidence if needed. He will get caught out, sooner or later. In the meantime get on with your life and don't let him drag you down.
