Which digital camera - Fuji or Canon?

 I've being doing some research on cameras and I think I've now been able to narrow the search to two.
Criteria has been:
1. Good image quality
2. Ease of use (for point and click)
3. Manual settings (for when we, I want to get clever with the camera)
4. Good for people and scenery shots
5. Reasonably compact (one thing I always hated about my bulky SLR was looking like an American tourist):rotfl:
The 2 cameras which i like are...
Fuji FinePix F70EXR (Amazon - £199)
Canon Powershot SX120 (Amazon - £177).
Whilst it is possible to get the latter slightly cheaper on ebay I always wonder what would happen if there were problems?
Anyway, both offer very good picture quality and ease of use (plus manual override and other gizmo's if you want to get tricky!)
As you will see from the images the Fuji is the more compact camera, whilst the Canon has more to grip
Thanks to YouTube there are reviews of both to see. Have a peek, they're not too long and they're aimed at the average user an not experts,
although be warned the Canon reviewer is a tadge annoying. :rotfl:
Fuji: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6q-9j8bYAs
Canon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9iwyvAQH8A
The Canon takes normal batteries, Whist the Fuji has a special rechargeable battery
Will also need to buy a memory card.
The ones supplied are low capacity and since each high-res picture will occupy about 5 megs of space we'd need to upgrade to one of about 8 gigs.
Cost is £8, so hardly an issue.
:cheesy: If you want to see some really nice pictures of cats taken by the Canon then take a peek at

I like both camreas, probably favouring the Canon due to it's price, manual override and macro (close up) shots.
However, the Fuji might be easier to have around and quicker to take snaps because of the unhidden flash unit.
Have had Fuji's in the past.
So would be interested to see what you think?
Thanks

I hate to throw another camera into the mix, but have you considered the Panasonic DMC-TZ6? We have the TZ3 version of the camera which is fantastic, and the TZ6 just improves on things (CNet review gave it 9.4 out of 10).
I think the clincher would be the batteries unless things have improved. In general I've always considered Canon to be better than Fuji, however I'd be interested to see the battery drain on the standard batteries on the Canon. I have an old Kodak camera that takes AAs, but if I'm lucky I'll get around 100 shots out of it, however the rechargeable battery in the Panasonic lasts a good deal longer, it's always frustrating to run out (though obviously taking standard batteries means you could have a backup, but at extra cost and bulkiness).
The TZ6 sits well in your price range (£178 on Amazon) has a better zoom and higher resolution and does come very highly regarded.
Anyway, hopefully I haven't caused you too much of a headache0 -
I have to agree... I have had a few Fujis over the past few years (I still have them as well) but my new Panasonic Lumix is the one I use the most. The battery seems to last forever and the pictures are far better quality.
I was once told to get the best pixel camera I could afford.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

I got a TZ6 2 weeks ago on the cdiscount deal and it is indeed very good.
If you do not have an MBNA based credit card I would order the amazon card now, get £15 cash for that use this money to offset even more against the TZ6 bringing it to £163.
You also get 9 months interest free credit for amazon purchases on amazon cards.
The TZ6 was £184.98 on amazon and ebuyer when I was looking.
After all was taken into account on cdiscount with intro discount and 20% i got it for £151 but I am extremely MSE with money.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

If you have already discounted the Panny and are sure about the 2 models you have mentioned check real life reviews of the battery.
Until this camera I have used rechargeable AAs in a Fuji and I hate them with a passion now.
They take a hammering in digital cameras and are useless after a while. I kept missing shots as they don't have the umph to take shot after shot quickly and after using the flash it was be 15 seconds before the screen came back. The TZ6 is near instant.
I have taken 100 photos at least in the last week or so since charging it for the 1st time and the battery is still showing full.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

panasonic lumix is very good i got the above mentioned from ebay 2nd hand its a great camera.
but i had a fuji f20 before that and that was great too, very easy to use which is my only complaint from the panasonic.0 -
the canon ones get better reviews on which, we bought this one recently from play.com excellent camera but was only 149 a few weeks ago and its gone up now

Not sure if they are all the same but I have a fujifilm A900 and it eats batteries like theres no tomorrow! Its also the size of a small brick. I would look at the battery power to compare, save yourself £££!0

Get a panasonic, really good reviews.
But don't be confused by megapixels, it is the sensor size and lens that make the difference.

ide deffinetly reccomend making sure its got a li-on battery, save a fortune in batteries. again my fuji f20 is a li on battery just plug it into the charger and leave it over night or sommat.
i also bought a really old cannon from the carboot, one of the ixus series for a fiver, i was suprised how good the pictures are on it for its age. so im assuming a modern one will be even better.
i like the memory card in the fuji finepix camera too. xd theyre very fast, if youre getting a camera that takes an sd card, sandisk make three kinds i ii iii three being the fastest to process but also the dearest.
any way..... good luck with your purchase and have fun snapping things.

I`ve had a cannon for a couple of yrs now & love it.Takes ordinary duracell batteries that last ages plus the videoing is good quality.
Plus , i bought mine when cannon had cashback so got £20 sent back to me.They usually start the deals round about now , also Nikon do the cashback as well.0
