bought one of these last year for one of ours who is very interested in animation. however, it does eat batteries as mentioned, it is very flimsy and not very easy to use, at least for us. You really do need the SD card and even then the output was very disappointing.

I think I might be having a blond moment but wouldn't a digital camera, cheap little tripod, plasticine and moviemaker on windows do the same job.
I know my son would love it but just trying to see if there is a cheaper way as he has a camera, and I have tripod and plasticine seen in pound shop. just wondering about the software.

Thanks OP. Received my 3 yesterday. (1 for my son and 2 for my neices) Impressive looking pressie.

Just need to find a cheap AC - DC adapter now. The instructions say It should be 5V 300mA output. I know the SD cards are very cheap, and the instructions don't say what size it takes. but I will start with a 512Mb or 1 Gb.

ffb, If you're looking for an all in one attractive looking unit I don't think you can go wrong. Otherwise there will be plenty of moviemaker software for free on the net.

Yes....digital camera / tripod / plasticine / moviemaker (or other software) would do and do a far BETTER job.

I bought the animation station for my son last year and whilst it works it is disappointing in the quality of the final output, ie movie, especially when someone has taken a number of hours to make and manoeuvre plasticine models. Focussing is quite fiddly and time consuming and rarely achieved to a sharp quality.

Still it wasn't a total waste of money.....it started the thought train and he has now evolved to the camera / tripod etc route.

For what they are charging (discounted price) it is worth the money and is an impressive looking gift. If it's for a pre-teenager then it will provide hours of enjoyment. Think about who you are giving it to and how technically 'perfect' they are going to want the final result to be. Some computer savvy kids could be producing (almost) Wallace and Gromit quality movie clips and would be very disappointed with this.

Sorry to bump this up as it's an old post but I need help!

Just tried to set this up with my DS but can't get it to work. Anyone else have any problems. Trying to connect it to the TV but it's showing no power to the station - anyone had any success or suggestions as to what to do? Has got new batteries in so not them.

    Thanks
  • Hello,

Got this for son for Christmas. We also had some problems setting it up, put in new batteries and still didn't come on. However, we held the sleep button for about 20 seconds and this brought the machine to life - it has put itself into sleep mode. Since then son has made several short animations and we are all very impressed with it. Hope you get it sorted.
