Question about Christmas cake

Sorry, full of questions today! Have read on here before about how delicious Delias christmas cake is so I have written the ingredients down to buy tomorrow.

Question is, once made, how long before I can ice it?
The one I make in the week will be iced in December so that it matures nicely. What would happen if I made one later on? How long do I have to let it mature?

    I was late one year and iced it the week after making the cake, but like you said it's nicer if you make it early and keep putting the alcohol on it.

    There will be nothing wrong with a christmas cake made later on it just won't be as rich / mature. Personally though I think it'll be better than any you buy in the shops !
