My first roast, feel like a proper cook now!

Options
Today whilst shopping I bought a boneless pork shoulder for DH (I'm veggie) and a whole chicken. I was brought up on burgers and sausages as meat, and DH has only really cooked a proper roast at christmas. I felt it made more money-saving sense to buy a large joint or whole chicken instead of paying (often a similar price) for sausages or burgers.

I also made my first homemade roast potatoes - great news as they are a particular favourite of mine. I feel like a proper cook now having made a meal from relatively raw ingrediants. Unfortunatly the bread I was making at the same time was one of my first to fail in ages.

I do have a question about the left overs from the roast though, I've heard a we ditty about roast on sunday followed by the order of the left overs throughout the week for the really thrify. I think curry and soup were late in the week, but I'm not sure what was early on in the 'week'.

I didn't get a chance to meal plan this week as DH wanted to go straight from the post office. But I decided to make him tea tonight as he's been making it for ages when I've been unwell, and he was feeling a bit nervous about tackling the joint.

Just thought I'd share my first 'proper' meal. :o

Huge congratulations! It sounds like you are really chuffed with your achievements.

However, being married to a veggie myself, I always make our main meal a veggie one, as it's a sacrifice too far to cook two separate meals. It's lovely that you have bothered on this occasion, but please don't make a rod for your own back. One veggie meal a day won't hurt him - in fact it will be good for his health! He can get his meat at work or whatever.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Well done! A roast is a difficult thing to produce, if yu can do that you can do anything!
As for the leftovers, I usually do curry if it's chicken, shepherds pie or rissoles if it's anything else, and there's always cold meat, chips (or bubble & squeak)and pickles!
