How much tax..New Job..Confusion!

Options
Hi guys I'm new to the forum.

Now lets expain my situation.

Current Job- Part time and earn £4000 a year.
Previous job- Temporary and earned £2000 for 6 weeks work, from August till September.

Now for my previous job, i have been taxed at least £500 from my wages. Im assuming this is correct as the tax man thinks I have 2 jobs, although 1 was temporary.

Now at the moment I'm looking for full time work. If I start working full time before March, will I be able to claim back my tax of £500 from my previous job? I assumed the 1st £6000 is tax free, resulting in claiming back my £500.

Will having a full time job have any bearing on me claiming this back.

Sorry if this is confusing.

Help is appreciated!!!

You can earn about 6200 per annum. Check on the HMRC website for the exact amounts. If you want to claim it back you have to fill in a P50 and send with your P45 but you have to say that you are not on certain benefits and you don't think you will be working agan this tax year. Look on the HMRC site.
    GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

I really dont think you would be able to claim anything back until after the end of the tax year. Just because you say you might not be working again in this tax year isnt good enough for HMRC. They need accurate figures to give you an accurate rebate. They can only do this at the end of the tax year.
And dont hold your breath then cos it can take months for them to sort it out.

I sent in a query for my husband in early August and heard nothing, rang them
mid Sept. and they said that it wasnt due to even be looked at till 31st October
and it was a mistake that they had made originally.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    you situation is unclear

can you list the jobs, the pay the tax and the taxcode for each month and payment starting april 2009

its likely that, if you were on the correct taxcode now that you would automatically get your 500 back (assuming it's due)

The number of jobs you have and whether they are temporary or permanent does not make any difference to the amount of tax you pay. You have a personal allowance of about £6,500 this year and if you earn less than this then you can claim any tax paid back.

If you have more than one job then probably the second employer will make some tax deductions, as they won't know what you are going to earn elsewhere, but you can still reclaim overpaid tax.

If you change to a higher paid full time position before the end of the tax year and use up the full personal allowance in this new job and the part time on, then no you will not get the tax back on the temporary job, assuming it was deducted at basic rate. i.e. on £2,000 I would have thought you would have paid £400 in tax not £500.
