mortgage claims - genuine?

we've been contacted by the estate agent who helped us to arrange our mortgage in 2002. we moved from halifa to nationwide on a 5 year fied rate mortgage. The estate agent (who works with cartell review) is suggesting that we have a potential case worth up to 5k in a mis-sold mortgage. he will assist pushing it through for a fee of 495 (which he says is refundable if the case doesn't go through). It all sounds a little suspect to me but wondered if anyone had any ideas on an area of mortgage claims that have currently come to light. The estate agent doesn't want to disclose the full details at this point as I guess he wants to retain involvement. It wasn't an endowment mortgage we had and wasn't payment protected. he's suggesting the claim is with the nationwide (the new provider) rather than himself...
Sounds a bit suss.. any ideas??!!

yes - sounds suspect?! is saying that the claim would be against the nationwide rather than him. via a legal company called cartell who i guess he would get a kickback from. the company cartell client review seem to look for loop holes in contracts..0

If he sold the mortgage and it is missold them he (or his firm) is liable, not Nationwide.
If you have anything in writing saying it was missold then you effectively have an admission of liability and a complaint would be difficult to defend.
Banging in a claim yourselves and pushing it to FOS if necessary may produce dividends.
I doubt his Professional Indemnity Insurers would be impressed with him, though!0 -

You will not find discussions on Cartel survive very long on the board. Cartel have threatened legal action against the board if threads were not removed. So, we cannot criticise them. However, that should tell you enough about the company. There is enough on the web elsewhere to put you off though.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
