Custom Clearance Agent is asking for £70 to clear items worth £15 !!

Options
I asked a custom clearance agent how much he much it would cost me to customs clear the £15 candies (weighing around 10KG) I imported, and he said it would cost between £70 to £100 !!

That seems to be a bit too much especially when considering the value of the goods I am importing (£15) !! He also mentioned the Terminal Handling Charges which he wasn't sure how much it would exactly cost.

Any hints on how I could reduce the above mentioned fees/costs ? Is it possible for me to clear the customs myself instead of appointing an agent? if so, how ?

  • How were these imported? What is so special about them?

If they were simply put into normal parcel post you might have imported them for nothing.

Might be cheaper to write them off and pretend you never ordered them?
