three weeks ago i was 60 (female)

i have been awarded my state pension
I am taking my company pension (which is delayed in being set up and will probably start next week
i will now be working part time, 21 hours instead of 37 (started 3 weeks ago)

My company were sent a new notice of coding this week, cant remember the code itself but the allowance is around £2,750.

Today, i have received a form (which i thought i had filled in before)
P161 coding form.

Is this so my code will change again or is the HMRC being stupid and
sending out duplicates

When did you last fill in the P161 and did you include details of your company pension on it? Is there any mention of your company pension on your most recent coding notice?

If not, then I would guess HMRC are trying to get info on this pension and you should fill it in again.

    Hi Trevor

I think i filled one in when i gave all my details to my pension advisor about a month ago, at that time he had no information as to what my pension would be so said he would fill it in when he found out.

Anyway, I'll fill it in and see what happens.
    Thanks for your help.

remember the code doesn't affect how much tax you should pay, and won't affect the tax you do pay if you do a self assessment, but will affect it you rely on PAYE to take it out - with multiple streams on income I wouldn't rely on that.

my oh has got rebates of £800 or so three years running because of this

If you have received it today, then the chances are that its been stuck in a postal backlog and was sent out weeks ago. So its quite likely that the one you returned a month ago and this new P161 have crossed over in the post.

Check the coding notice you have received and if it mentions the state pension in the duductions then they have most likely received the original P161 or the P46(DWP).

If your still not sure phone on Monday to see if they have it. ( The PAYE system is down on sunday due to an ungrade of the DWP home responsibilities system to which it is linked)

your payroll won't have the details of the code, only the code number itself.

I thought you had received your notice of coding which is a bit more detailed, it tells you how the code is made up, detailing any deductions or extra allowances etc. the notice sent to your payroll dpartment only shows the code to use not how it was made up.

I'd still phone HMRC on monday and ask if the P161 has been received or not. and how your latest code has been determined

no sorry if i was ambiguous. I see what you mean about the coding explantion
and not just the code itself. Luckily i have the freephone number from when
my OH had trouble. Will ring them on Monday night.

    Thanks to all.
