hi martin,
can you help me please?
i have just started a new job & my employer is under the impression that i was previously unemployed.
its a long story, but i cant tell him that i was as i may lose my job.
can i send my p45 directly to the tax office to get my coding amended so that they will send the correct code to my employer so i wont be on BRE code for ever?
can you help me please?

If you tell your employer that you cannot find your P45 then you will have to complete a P46. This will mean you will eventually get the right tax code.
By starting your new job so dishonestly though you are just storing up major problems for the future.0 -

If you fill in a P46 the tax office will send to your employer your tax code and the total taxable pay you have received prior to starting there along with the total tax you have paid. If you do not want your new employer to know these pay and tax details then you need to get in touch with the tax office as advised on the P45. As warned on the P45 you may pay too much tax if you do this, and need to get it back at the year end."Going to a new job
Give Parts 2 and 3 of this form to your new employer,
or you will have tax deducted using the emergency
code and may pay too much tax. If you do not want
your new employer to know the details on this form,
send it to your HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) office
immediately with a letter saying so and giving the
name and address of your new employer. HMRC can
make special arrangements, but you may pay too
much tax for a while as a result of this."0 -
