Cheap adult's mountain bike

I'm looking to lose weight and wanted to buy a bike for cycling around the local park and promenade, but didnt want to spend a fortune. Mainly because for what i need it for it doesn't have to be expensive, and there's always the possibility of it spending the rest of it's life in the garage after 2 weeks use! :j

If you're not sure whether you'll use it I'd suggest getting a cheap secondhand bike from Loot, AdTrader, classifieds in your local paper etc. If you find you like it you can upgrade later if you need to. It doesn't sound like you need a high end bike from what you say. In fact a cheap mountain bike might be closer to what you're after than an expensive one since you won't need millions of gears or suspension for a ride in the park. You don't really need a mountain bike at all, a road bike would be suitable, but mountain bikes are eaier to come by secondhand.

Avoid high street shops for example toys r us as the bikes are cheap but they are of poor quality and cheap mountain bikes with full suspension are rubbish are are more likely to cause you problems

As stated above go for a good second hand bike if you don't want to spend loads and if you are not going to use your bike all the time

Defo go for a 2nd hand bike. Then again, a friend of mine bought a cheapish pub bike (£200 mind you) and thinks it's still way better than no bike. You can pick up end of year bargains at places like Leisurelakes, but serious (moody) mountain bikes cost around £450 minimum even for hard tails.
