pay ammendment

Hi my wife worked for social services here in South Wales from 1999-2004 for a departement called "Independent Living."She bumped into an old work collegue the other day and he told her that he and they had been found by law to have been underpaid for a number of years.And so he related how he'd recieved a substantial"wage ammendment" backdated for those years.We've contacted her old payroll dept.They know "nothing about it".Also we contacted an old union rep who seems not to be "too hopeful" about it.Just wondering does anyone know anything about this wage ammendent or where I could find some info etc on it.Have tried the gov website and local council site etc .Many thanks

The only way your wife could have been "found by law to have been underpaid" would be if she had been paid less than the minimum legal wage, which is doubtful if her employer was local or central govt. She should get out her old pay slips and check her gross wage payments with the appropriate mlw for that year.

ill keep that in mind.i'm pretty sure that she was on at least the min wage.but perhaps either a european ruling or a union type dispute happened.either way one of her work colleagues had a payout of over 5 grand.however my wifes unique filing sustem may never enable me to view her old payslips*sigh*

Can she not contact any other former colleagues for more info. Or cannot the colleague she met help further. I think you will be extremely lucky to find anyone on this forum who knows anything about this specific case.

If the union rep wasn't "hopeful", it does sound as if your wife may not be eligible for a backdated increase.
