Hi,
We decided we had to go bankrupt due to benefits etc.. i contacted a insolvancy company who agreed this was the best thing to do and that they would look after us etc.. and file the bankrupcy..however the charges from various companies ranged from £180-£500 for their fee's plus the £100 legal fees paid to file the banrupcy..yes they advised we could pay this up.
If you go to the AIB gov website and apply yourself it only costs the £100 legal fee's ..the form is very simple to fill in and in all hoensty i wish i was told this was an option from the get go. I wasn't aware we could do it ourselves and have lost £180 of the £300 charges ..however i have now filled in our form and sent it away..So my advice is to have a look and fill the form in yourself save you money and it is also done much quicker than going through a company ....I hope this helps others in the same boat save money and get their life back on track quicker x:A

Yep! we always recommend people steer clear of these companies and do it themselves.
Sorry to hear you were conned by them but thank you for posting your story as a warning to others.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Just to add I had no idea there were free charities out there, I found national debtline (free, impartial) on the governments website as I was concerned at being taken for a ride also.
Watchdog last night MSE Martin Lewis commented on how it was actually a disgrace that the banks themselves appear to be charging around £100 for debt advice.
Nobody ever needs to pay anything for advice, doesn't need any help with forms and i'm sure if you do the CAB would help as would we. Never pay a penny a anyone0
