Boxes of Dumpling Mix

Do you think I could just make up the mix and roll it out to use as a pastry lid for a pie?
It will be a gravy and meat filled pie so it will be wet enough on the bottom but will it work?

I bought the boxes of mix from a local £1 shop and it was 5 for a £1 - I couldnt resist.

Don;t see why not Dumplings are pretty much the same recipe as suet crust pastry, after all

I'm not sure what is in dumpling mix but when I make them I use suet and flour plus some water.

You can certainly roll out dumpling dough to produce suetcrust pastry. It will make a soft spongey crust to your pies.

Thats what I am going for - although now I have started thinking about it I am thinking it might be a nice pie top for stewed apples.
