Can't stop crying...

I'm so sorry

It gets better with time in a way - you will never miss him less, but it pain becomes less raw.
You did an amazing and selfless thing in helping him leave the pain behind even though it meant you couldn't keep him with you, and he is grateful for that. He was a lucky chap to have someone like you to care for him till the end.
Sometimes when I lose a pet i find it help to put together a scrapbook with photos of them, stories about the times we shared, and poems that remind me of them.
Don't try to rush your grieving, you need to give yourself time. Having said that, I hope that both you and your little girl can start to heal soon. big hugs.August grocery challenge: £50

I'm so sorry! Big virtual hugs to you! It does get easier but there is nothing wrong with feeling the pain now. Just think of the lovely 14 long years he had with you and try to think of the lovely times! x x x xMummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0

aw...i am so sorry...i was devastated when i lost my cat i had for 20 years. i got him when i was 7 and he was by my side for many significant moments, he saw me through from being a child, through to becoming a woman...they really are family members and you will feel accordingly devastated. it does get better with time, and the crying you are doing is part of the healing process...it's ok. it's natural. just feel what you need to feel xxx0

Very sorry to hear your sad story.
I know exactly how you feel, we had to have our dog put to sleep last week after a long battle with heart disease she was happy right up until the last 2 days when an operation to relieve swelling was too much for her and we knew it was time and the kindest thing for her but still very very upsetting, there are memories of her lovely kind ways everywhere that bring tears.
My girlfriends 3 year old granddaughter drew a picture of her with a smiley face ' because she's not hurting any more'
WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
UpsyDaisy, I don't know you but I do know how you are feeling. I lost my first dog when I was 21, he was 10. He had seen me though my teenage years and listened to me, and I guess your dog did too. It does get better with time and you will be able to look back and smile one day, but for now please know that there are people out there who do know how you feel and right now are probably shedding a tear for you. You did a very loving and selfless thing for him in the end - please take comfort from that.0

I am so sorry hun - i had two dogs and two cats I had put to sleep; and it was kindest way. as to explain to the kids - I would just say that (pets name) was very ill and died) then explain that when pets die they just go to a better place to wait for you. if that agrees with your beliefs. kids somehow seem to understand the concept of heaven.
If this isnt to your belief then you will have to tailor your belief to your childs understanding
but in my experience most 2 and under have the memory of a goldfish and if you dont mention it - they dont either! some do tho!0 -
Sorry to hear about your dog - I understand as I too have been there. May I suggest you think about getting another dog fairly quickly - nothing will replace the dog you have lost, but having another one will bring its own joy and doggy love into the family with its own personality. When we had to have our dog put to sleep (due to two grapefruit sized tumours in chest and abdomen) my husband survived about 2 weeks before saying we needed another dog. He works from home and the dog kept him company. We visited a local dog rescue centre and found one that had been brought in after being abandoned. She has repaid us umpteen times with her love and affection.
Dogs definitely have a special place in our hearts.:hello:0 -
So sorry to hear of your loss, we lost our beloved dog some 3 years ago now, still miss her waggy tail as you enter the front door.....
We decided not to get another dog right now, maybe when we retire.
As others have said it does get easier, a few years previously we had a proper picture taken of her, that now takes pride of place on our mantel..

Once the intial shock has reduced a bit, you'll be able to think of it as doing an old friend a favour.
In this country we're not allowed to help our elderly relatives slip away when their body is failing and they are in pain, but thankfully, we are allowed to do this one last thing for our furry family members.
It's the hardest thing to go through, but you will get over it, and you will in time end up getting another pet, but it will be your 2year old's. I'd wait till he/she is a good bit older then get a rescue dog.
sorry for your loss, it is a terrible heartache.
Explain to your little one he's gone to doggy heaven where he'll be running round and playing with all the other animals...Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Not that it helps much, but I can't stop crying either. My beautiful 18 year old cat had to be put to sleep today. She was the most massive part of my world. I have lost animals before, but the grief over losing her is almost unbearable. I miss her so much, and understand exactly how you feel.0
