I disagree on three occasions I have been given choc0late a month or two out of date ,and besides the white appearance the taste is off..remember milk is a big ingrediant in choc.
The white stuff: 'Chocolate bloom' is actually the fats in chocolate seperating... milk has nothing to do with it, it's a cooked product, just as you wouldn't think about the egg going off in a christmas cake...:rolleyes:0 -

My mate used to work for a subsiduary of Cadbury. Her job was a 'stripper', which meant she would strip the wrappers of out of date chocolate (boxes full of the stuff), put it in big plastic containers which went back to the factory and back in the machine to make more chocolate.
So I don't think it goes too off, or they would not be allowed to do that!
She was allowed to eat what ever she liked, but she said finding the dead mice in the boxes tended to put her off.

If you remember next year, have a look at the sell-by date next time you buy and Easter egg. You'll see the date is about 6 months. But an ordinary bar of chocolate will have 9 months on it. Exactly the same chocolate.......

also the white chocolate bloom normally occurs when the chocolate has been stored at too high a temperature and therefore will happen to ANY chocolate regardless of it's best before date
personally i've not found the flavour any different with chocolate bloom just the appearance0 -

I think you're spot on there.
I've been reviewing chocolate lately and the average BBD is about a year after the manufacture date. But the Easter stuff I've reviewed in the past has had a much shorter life."You've got to be in it to win it." Who said that?0
