The ideas I pick up on here just amaze me. I have a pair of white corded trousers which looked a bit off white and really wanted to go out and buy a black pair then remembered reading a post about clothes dye. Well off I went to look for one of those little tins of dye (thirty years since I used a dye) and was surprised to find good sized boxes and also the fact that I could do it in washing machine. I now have a pair of nice black cords, (the stitching stayed white which is nice) and saved myself £20 which includes the price of the dye. I now have plans for two more pair of old white trousers and an expensive white duvet cover which has faded. You people have saved me a lota money in the past two years. Thanks

Here's lookin' at yer, Irishwexford!
My last attempt at dying was not quite so succesful. I had a natural sheepskin which was looking a bit sad, so I bought 3 packets of Dylon machine wash dye in an attempt to dye it burgundy red to make a funky new hearthrug.
Unfortunately even on a low temperature wash the finished result came out more of a purple-y colour than burgundy, and the skin shrunk a bit.
Some you win, some you lose.
But the dye did disappear from the machine and I didn't have pale purple underwear next time, which I suppose you could count as a success of sorts.
I dyed for beauty, but was scarce adjusted in the tomb,
When one who dyed for truth was lain in an adjoining room.
