Magimix questions

I'm currently lusting after one of these and have seen a few on Ebay but the used models seem to be discontinued in the regular shops.

My question is: do Magimix food processors go on and on (like Kenwood Chefs)?

With Kenwood Chefs I prefer the old models bc they are more solidly built than the new plastic ones. I iwondered if Magimix is a bit similar in that respect....? I'm not interested in all the accesories (juicers, citrus press etc) as my trusty 1950s Kenwood Chef already has those.

Thanks

My mother has a 25 year old Magimix which is still going strong. Hers was the professional standard one, which I now have. My previous one wasn't, so only lasted 20 years
  • I have a Magimix 5100 which is over 10 years old. Admittedly it hasn`t had heavy use but it is still going strong - apart from the plastic bowl which is looking like it will crack at some point. Reading reviews this is a common problem and a new bowl can be bought for around £50 ( more than some new food processors cost  )

Before I bought one I read up a bit and appartently it has an induction motor which doesn`t wear out like a normal motor.
  • No idea which model my Magimix is but it belonged to my MIL and is at least 20 years old and still going strong.
  • I'm pretty sure all Magimix models have a 12 year warranty on the motor :)
  • We have a Magimix model 5100 which we've had for several years. Admittedly it doesn't get used every day, but it is a good, solid machine.

I have been using it recently to juice apples, and unusually for most machines of this type it actually takes less time to assemble, disassemble and clean it than it does to do the job you have got it out for! :rotfl:

I've got a Compact 3100, had it about ten years. I was torn between this and a Kenwood, but the Magimix won because it is what it says compact and stays out on the worktop and gets used. I like mine but this is my first processor so nothing to compare it with really.
Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.

My first Magimix lasted 26 years with no problem except I'd dropped the bowl at some point and broke the handle but it still worked. Gave up the ghost four years ago and had to go out right away and get another one, wouldn't be without it.

Has anyone used the citrus press (not the juicer) on the Magimix. I'm thinking of the 5200 becoming my new best friend. Any comment on other aspects would be gratefully received.

I am on what I think is my third bowl, as they crack and bits fall off them. They do have a long guarantee but by the time (about 2 years each time) the bowl collapses I've lost the receipt (of course)and they are about £50.00, that includes the baby bowl, but I never find the blades for the baby bowl are any good - won't even chop parsley properly, for which you have to use the big one. The bowl was clearly designed by someone who never cooked as it's all fiddly bits which are impossible to wash properly and dry. I do love my Magimix and use it a lot for pastry, anything needing to be finely chopped (breadcrumbs, onions) or sliced (big quantities of veg for soups etc). I use it for soups sometimes instead of my 'wand' if I want things really emulsified. BUT I was recently given a little Cuisinart processor - tiny bowl, one blade which reverses to chop or to mix, no other attachments, and I love it. The capacity is much smaller, so you might have to do things in more than one go but it is extremely efficient and MUCH easier to wash up, so actually I use it more. It won't squeeze citrus, but I wouldn't do that with my magimix either because of the washing-up pain.
