Birminghan Hippodrome

Where are you travelling from? The hippodrome is in an area that's busy at night - I wouldn't be worried about walking to and from the train station it's probably about a 10 minute walk at most, but you need to check the times of the last train as some of them leave before the show has finished. (Found that out the hard way, even though it sounds bleeding obvious, as the show was late starting!)
Driving's not so bad (again depending on where you're coming from). Street parking is a bit hopeless, but if security is an issue for you the carpark in the Arcadian centre is manned, well lit but a bit pricey. Otherwise just around the corner from there is the Pershore Street carpark - not as tarted up but cheaper.
The nearest hotel (no idea about prices) is the Ibis, which is part of the Arcadian centre just down the road from the theatre.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I concur with the above poster, but will add that if you don't know the city it may be a little daunting to drive there as it's almost in the city centre(if you decide to drive ask for the 'chinese quarter')
The railway station (New Street) is quite convenient.0
