Abbey - Chasing money (?) 3years after a Full and Final Settlement

Good evening to you all,

I was just wondering if anyone has come across the following?

In 2006 I had some financial difficulty. I agreed a full and final settlement (about 75% of the total) on a unsecured personal loan which was accepted (they also stated they would not attempt to recover the balance).

A few months later they tried to recover the balance and after a some advise from the Financial Ombudsman and a few more letters they appologised and claimed no further action would be taken (Again).

Then today I recieved a "statement", a single piece of paper that just shows (as at 1st Oct 2008) the balance before interest and (at 14th Oct 2009) the interest added. This totals the balance after the settlement. There is no other information than contacts details.

Its too late to call them tonight to find out what this means so I thought I would just run it passed you to see if you had come across this before? It is now, again, causing me stress and worry after I though this was all behind me.

Many thanks

Neil

PS. I also complaind to the ombudsman for what I felt was an unfair default notice placed on my account. I sadly lost as I hadn't enough back up information. So just a reminder to keep ALL correspondance no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time!!!!

Just something that was mentioned to me about this matter...

...do you think abbey are sending out these statements in the hope that people might panic and pay?

    Hi Neil,

Do you have a letter from Abbey confirming the acceptance of your last payment as F & F settlement?

That's all you really need then! What did they say to you when you phoned them?

It may be worth sending a letter to them in reply to the one they sent you attaching a copy of the F & F letter.
