Hi,
Everytime I start the PC up, MSN Icon shows up in the right corner.
I have gone to the > msconfig > Startup and disabled it but it reappears after restart.
Anyone know what else I can do?
Thanks.

Isn't there something in the Options in messenger to disable it starting at start-up?
Failing that go to C:\Program Files\Messenger and change the folder name to Messengerdisabled or something.Dave. :wave:0 -
the easiest and most efficient way of getting rid of MSN messenger (the one that comes with Windows) is to block it in your internet security suit.
It will never connect then and therefore never pop up on start up.0 -
@maforduk
there is two types of messenger you can have on your pc:-
Windows (msn) messenger - comes with windows and is associated with outlook.
Removal methods:-
Windows XP Professional
Click Start-> Settings -> Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Click Services
Double-click Services
Scroll down and highlight Messenger
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties
Click the STOP button
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows XP Home
Click Start-> Settings -> Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double-click Services
Scroll down and highlight Messenger
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties
Click the STOP button
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows 2000
Click Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Services
Scroll down and highlight Messenger
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties
Click the STOP button
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Windows NT
Click Start-> Control Panel
Double-click Administrative Tools
Select Services-> Double-click on Messenger
In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop
Choose Disable as the Startup Type
Click OK
MSN Messenger - a seperate program which can be removed using add/remove programs weith a little tweaking:- some of you out there may wish to remove MSN Messenger from Windows XP. However, it does not appear from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.
In order for it to show up there, you must first edit the file named sysoc.inf. This file can be found in a folder named INF, which is a subfolder of the Windows folder (or in some cases the winnt folder, depending on how your OS was installed).
You can open that file in notepad. Look for the following line:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
and remove the word "hide" while leaving the commas on place. Close and save the file, and then open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel, so that you can remove it like any other program."
To Get Rid of the Annoying PopUp Ads:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel (or point to Settings, and then click Control Panel).
2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click Services.
4. Double-click Messenger.
5. In the Startup type list, click Disabled.
6. Click Stop, and then click OK.
Hope that helps a little
