Ticketmaster charges

I tried to book tickets for Baby Bollywood at the Waterfront online today. The tickets were £3 each and Ticketmaster tried to add £1.75 handling charge per ticket! I couldn't bring myself to pay an extra £7 for £12 worth of tickets.
Is this a normal amount?? I felt that TM weren't so much handling the tickets as holding them hostage!
Incidentally I rang the Waterfront directly and got charged £1 in total as a handling charge.
How can TM get away with such huge charges? Maybe it doesn't feel so painful if you're paying £100 for a Madonna ticket.....
