Finally bit the bullet and checked my credit report......

for the first time since I entered my DMP last December. I don't know why I was so afraid to check. I was sick with worry before the DMP now I feel like this year has beent the first time in many that I have been happy and not worrying from month to month. I even managed to get my initial payment back from Moneyworries after 6 months and the involvement of the finincial ombudsman. :T

Most of the debts are showing payment arranged except bank of scotland preference who have been the worst to deal with - now in the hands of lovely Blair, Oliver and Scott. I called them as soon as I recieved the letter and they asked for my income/expenditure from the cccs which I promptly arranged so far so good.

Yes is has been a struggle living by my means but I much prefer being short sometimes than the fear of how I was going to pay bills every month. My Hubbie has been amazing, yes he was angry at the beginning when I finally told him but I don't think I could have got through all the initial aggro without his support.

Joining this site and going on a DMP is the best thing I have ever done for my quality of life, health and my sanity. It's still got a while to go and there may be twists in the road but so far I have to say any creditor I have spoken to about my plan and any letters I have received which I have chased up has all been ok. I know the initial response is not to call but I would rather sort it our before it goes any further and they have been pleasant enough and never threatening so far. Think there are so many people in the same boat.

A year past December 13th was my LBM and I will never look back!

Thanks to everyone for your help and support, it's been priceless unlike my american express card lol xxx

awww Im like you, I keep putting off checking my credit report, To be honest I keep thinking i dont want to know lol
when you check your credit report was it instant? Did it cost and I just wondered if you are only allowed to check it a maximum number of times? Sorry for all questions.

I am also on a DMP and only one of my creditors put my debt to a DCA too :)
  • I know it's really daunting but it is good to see how the debts are going down and to make sure that the information they have is correct.
I used equifax.co.uk as I had already had a trial with creditexpert before and now they want me to pay. I had to put my bank details in but I appled to cancel as soon as I had looked. As long as you cancel before the 30days is up you won't have to pay any subscriptions. It was instant. Not sure if there might me more data on an experian report but it definitely seemed correct to me.
Don't be afraid, taking the first step is facing up and although I don't ever intend on any credit ever agin, I am so proud of myself for doing something about it as everyone should be.
    Take care,
    M xxx

  • My credit rating was completely ruined after separating from my ex, as he wasn't a British national and not on the electoral roll all the debt from the marriage was in my name, including a £5000 loan to pay off his credit cards 6 months before we split. I had accepted over the years that I was a blot on the landscape as far as the banks were concerned, until last week when I went into the BofS to complain about them having converted my bill payment account into a current account (so I am now subject to up to £62 per month charges instead of £31). I registered with Experian, got an excellent report, and then paid to get my score which is now 966 and Excellent.

It paid off sticking my head down and just paying things off slowly over the years. It might not be as bad as you think it will be, mines wasn't.
