Hi there
I have just received a letter from Bank of Scotland notifying me of changes to my current account. From 6th December they will no longer be charging me debit interest on any overdraft I use instead they are going to charge me £1 a day for using my arranged overdraft. HELP I am always overdrawn, as I am self employed I never get paid on time any advice very appreciated

I am in the same position. I am also self employed. And i have a CCJ so have nowhere else to go. I will go from paying about £5 a month in interest to over £30 if i do not get enough in to get back into credit in any particular month.......not happy.:mad:
When they say "its to help our customers understand where they stand and budget effectively"......they mean :its so we can replace our empty coffers.

Have had the same letter from Halifax (obviously as part of the same group)
So think I will have to chuck as much money as possible at the overdraft it to get rid asap.:rolleyes:My finances are work in progress.Normal veiwing will resume shortly0 -
I wonder if we can sweet talk Martin into starting one of his brilliant and effective campaigns to shame HBOS out of this clearly unfair change to its terms and conditions.
Any thoughts?2013 TARGET £30k

A friend has 2 accounts with the Halifax, plus her OH has one, so in theory they could be charged £180 per month were they overdrawn - they're not, but she has ditched all 3 accounts on principal and switched to A&L.
When she called them to dispute it, they "helpfully" mentioned they could provide a Personal Loan to help her out of her "situation"!
Seems like the back lash against reclaiming bank charges has begun, I'm sure all banks will adopt a similar policy....0 -
this is happening to m,y friend who is trying to clear her halifax overdraft. They told her she could get round it by having the £12 per month current account but she'd have to put her salary back in there :rolleyes:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

I think Martin is already starting a campaign which will be detailed in next week's email.
Barstewards! This is just money grabbing, and if I could switch banks I could, but they have me (and many others) over a barrell here.
I'm soooo angry!!!!
Back in the UK from tonight so I think I will go into the local branch and let them know how unhappy I am with this.'
I'm also going to do my best to find a solution to this. See if there is some way to switch...I dunno.
I'm sooo angry!. I'm doing everything within my power to get rid of the debt, and they are now, unnecessarily, adding to it!
I feel like they are punishing me for being a bad customer, when I haven't been. I stay within the limit and am paying it back, bit by bit each month.
Plus, I have NOT received ANY notification from them. It is most likely still in the post, however, with all the postal strikes in the UK and them knowing I live abroad, I don't understand why this hasn't been communicated electronically? Email? Online when I check in? Nope, nothing, not a thing. I only know because I saw the article about it on this site!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I got the same letter last week and my first reaction was to pay the 200 quid i owe them on my overdraft and shut the account, but my student bursery goes into the account and i put a couple of cheques in there each month.. my main account is with A&L and the nearest branch is 30 miles away so i'm keeps the account for now but as soon as I start nursing bye bye halifax ...get rid of all the pounds by summer !!
weight loss 3/42 lb
Debt from 1st March:
Was -£8900 NOW-£5000 PAID- £3900
Get rid of the weight, pay the debt, then get myself a campavan! :T0 -
we got same letter today - i think its disgusting and completely unfair especially for people who usually live in their overdraft and have no option to stay with them if credit rating is bad and cant get another account. Surely it will only drive customers away - who can get away..... i guess its find £200.00 just before Christmas:eek::eek: or get another account!
I dont plan on paying upto £31.00 per month for this overdraft they arranged years ago for us!
Dont the public own some bit of this bank? do we get a say????
Martin this is one for you!!!!!0 -
I was totally gutted. We have a joint account and a business account. Our overdraft is £1,500.00 and always using it because of the business. I am now literally trying to clear it hopefully by january so I don't have these fees. So difficult though. I have been clearing out the attic , kids rooms and all my clothes and selling on ebay just to pay the phone bill this month.
Action should be taken.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
Just want to bump this up, is anything happening with regards to a some kind of campaign? I've went from average £5 a month charges to £24 for this month, I practically live in my overdraft. I've opened an alliance and leicester account but I still need to pay off the £950 overdraft before I move. A&L only gave me £400 overdraft so that's £550 I need to clear.
Bank of Scotland are the devils own.0
