I have won the above in a school tombola ( I am guessing the previous owner wasn't sure what to do with it either!)
before I open it and "see" I was wondering if anybody else had any experience of these and any good ideas as to that to do with them!
Thanks

Hi Wyebird,
I had some of these - goodness knows why i bought them! I served them as part of a nibbles / tapas type meal, and have to say, they were pretty vile - greasy and gritty and odd tasting. I'd be careful about mxing them into anything, as if you don't like them, they'll ruin the whole dish.
Sorry not to be more positive!

My WI Book of Pies and Puddings has a recipe for Luxury Steak and Kidney Pie with Oysters and Puff Pastry, which says a can smoked oysters is fine to use.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Smoked oysters are yummy! When you cook oysters the texture changes completely - they become dense and soft, unlike their slippery raw counterparts which I also love btw!
They do have a very strong smoked flavour and are packed in oil so if either of those things don't appeal you might not like them. I eat them straight out of the tin, hoiked out with a toothpick but if you wanted to cook with them they would add a delicious smokey flavour to fish pie. Just pour out the oil like you would with a tin of tuna (but don't squish!) and add to the fish mix. As I often make fish pie with smoked haddock, in this instance I would make sure not to add any other smoked fish.
Enjoy!0 -
I like them nuked in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then served with hot buttered toast Mmmmmmm0

OMG! I met smoked oysters in the States as nibbles on a buffet in 1972 when I was just pregnant with DS1 - and I loved them!! tried to persuade DH that I had to have them as an addiction food because I was pregnant - but couldn't find them when we returned to the UK ( and subsequently dveloped a passion for baked beans instead!!!)
Have never had a smoked oyster since...Resolution:
