Wed 21st Oct - What small DFW things have you done today?!

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :D

Hello everyone. :hello: I'm not a regular on here, but have a moment or two to join in today.

I'm meal planning at the moment, and finding it really useful. I work full-time and hate having to think up what we are eating in the evening when I get home so this makes things easier all round.

Cottage pie tonight, the defrosted half of one I made last week, so out of the freezer last night ready to reheat this evening. We will have broccoli & carrots with it. Yum! (DS loves it too!)

My phone is charging at my desk as we speak.

My washing machine broke down today, so I have a little man coming to fix it (fingers crossed) tomorrow. I hope it hasn't given up the ghost - how helpless do you feel without a washing machine? Hopefully it will be a small expense, not a big one.

Oh, I have brought my lunch into work today as well, so this may well become a NSD.

Right, must go - work to do. Have a great day all!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Afternoon all,

Think you are right savingforarainyday, everyone is getting on with thier real lives! Either that or they are where I want to be and at home under the duvet hiding from the weather. It is p*ssing it down here and SO dark outside, in fact I think this is it now and it won't get light till March. Think I am coming down with a cold too which isn't helping with the whole being at work thing.

In good news though, had my job interview this morning and it went quite well. There are another two stages (an assessment and another interview) but apparently they are looking to fill the job quite quickly so hopefully I should hear if I have got through to the next phase soon. Sounds like an amazing opportunity though! Had to get changed in the car so everyone at work wouldn't know I had been to an interview...ended up giving a random bloke walking past a bit of an eyeful! Whoops :o I checked really carefully to make sure there was no-one coming down the street!

    List for Wednesday
    • Check banking
    • Breakfast at home, lunch from stores
    • Dinner from plan (chilli from freezer)
    • NSD
    • Paint radiator in flat
    • Grout tiles in flat (only if the adhesive is dry)
    • Chill out on settee tonight with the secret millionaire, may even light the fire...it's that sort of night.
    xx

    Today so far:
    - Quidco clicks
    - Pigsback comps ()
    - store cupboard meals planned & 2 eaten
    - wearing several cardigans & a fetching fleece blanket instead of turning on the heating (I have RA so I get cold fast)
    - took a drink to work rather than use the machine

    Later I shall:
    - plan free trips/visits for my week off,
    - wrap & label more of my Xmas present stash
    - list what still needs to be bought ready for week off :o
    - research best savings account now that my ISA is full

DH will carry on painting Little Sis's old cupboards for DS2's bedroom - he's already done the bed & chest of drawers.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • I'm new on here, trying to pay back our debt asap (DFD 17/09/2010).

    - Spoken to sky to cut down our package. We were just billed a couple of days ago (comes out on the 1st nov) so we have already paid for the channels we want to cancel up until the 17th November. They said best to phone back on 16th November to cancel them.

    - Registered online with Lloyds TSB (one of our credit cards) I think we have managed to clear the balance on this card, but just wanted to check online, incase there is interest still to pay. Sadly have to wait for them to post something to confirm log in details and with the postal strike don't know when I'll see that!

Hi everyone - best of luck with the interview Katy - I take it the bloke you gave an eyefull wasn't a potential employer?:p Welcome to skintnutta x

    Today I:
    1) Did a half day at work
    2) All meals from stores
    3) Received a bargain top from ebay seller.
    4) Checked bank and quidco
    5) Booked a lovely B&B for me and OH in Lyme Regis for mates' wedding next week. Got it for £52 compared to £120 where everyone else is staying!:jAlthough it is the first time OH and I have been away on your own in nearly 9 years - and we have twin beds.:o
    6) Set up payments to CCs to go out on payday, so I don't forget.
    7) Stocked up on 5 x Bodyform from Boots for me and B. On offer at £1 each, and a free lipgloss with each packet.
    8) Only bought bread in Sainsburys and picked up a free mini edition of Marie Claire.
    9) Gave some free tickets for a local exhibition away on Netmums, for good freebie karma.

Right, off to persuade everyone that they want lentils for tea again.
    See you tomorrow, L x
  • Hi Everyone!! Hope it is not as murky and grotty for everyone else as it is here!! Still managing with no heating....

Went food shopping with list and got lots of whoopsied meat.... and other bargains. Now have chicken in over and beef and prune stew (is much nicer than it sounds) in the SC. Chix will be stripped for freezer and carcass made into stock and stew will go in freezer too as I already have tonights tea planned.

Also managed to pick up a half price MASSIVE box of Thorntons for a Christmas pressie for OH nan and some BOGOF's for table presents. ;)

Worked from home today, so NSD apart from shopping (which was planned)
Will go and look at Dunelm tonight though for a cheap Roman Blind kit and if I find one will buy it and the material to make one. Although this will mean not a NSD, it is planned for and will be SO much cheaper than the £97 they quoted me!

Have also worked out that I can finish for my MAT leave a week earlier than I thought as I have more holiday left than I thought....I'm sure work have made a mistake, but, I'm not about to argue....:D

    Happy MSE thoughts to all
