- VAT up to 20%.
- Cut stupid wastage in the NHS and MOD etc
- Cut ID cards
- Freeze public sector pay
- Cut the still ongoing, investment into road pricing.
- Stop the war
- Stop giving loads of people 10 quid a week in tax credits, it's a complete waste
- Stop the £250 bond thing for kids, we did fine without it
- Cut all the extra benefits that seem to crop up
- Pool all benefits into one service and one payment service
- Stop ESA....it really does start teaching people how to get something for nothing
- Make EVERYONE pay coucil tax, even if it's banded for those who are means tested apart from those truly disabled and truly unable to do any type of work.
- Stop sending child benefit overseas
- Do not allow single mothers to keep all their CSA payments and all their benefits, which is about to, or just has, come in, costing us all millions extra.
I could go on.
Doubt the conservatives will do half of that, but even 2 or 3 things could stop massive wastage simply to win votes and give an illusion of "you will be worse off if another party takes over"....i..e, creating reliance.
All this or alternatives takes money out of the economy which circulates through businesses small and large. Result is the spiral downwards of depression with yet more unemployment.0 -

Agreed.
But on the same token, it forces the government to borrow in order to artifically keep everything going.
We are then back to square one. Government giving out money, taken off taxpayers, in order to distibute it out. But there will never be enough money to distribute as they can't take what they need from the taxpayer....it wouldnt be worth working.0 -
Excellent news.
The sooner the Tories get in, the sooner we can start dismantling the welfare state and putting growth policies in place that will ultimately lead to less taxation, less intrusive government, shrinking the public sector and a stronger private sector.
Not to mention Kirstie Allsop in the House of Lords running housing policy.
It's like Christmas coming early.....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Are you joking or not?
Gnerally (and maybe I'm wrong) it seems that you have no problem with individuals borrowing large sums of money to buy houses as long as they can service the debt (affordability and all that)... doesn't that apply to the state too?
Taxation levels (in % terms) have only varied by 1 or 2 points in the modern era, I wouldn't really expect a low-tax regime under Cameron0 -

Kind of.
The thing for me however, is that we coped before welfare.
Thing about welfare however, is the more people working, the more people required in jobs to service those people working. More people working actually creates jobs.0 -

Well you didn't cope if you happened to be poor. Then you died after a short and horrible life.0 -

a lot of people came on to welfare in the 1980s as coal mining and manufacturing declined. And many were shunted onto invalidity benefit. it was the much easier to keep a substantial proportion more of people in low skill jobs as we didn't face the competition from the far east to the same extent. Not easy to create jobs these days for many with that overseas competition and outsourcing of much of what was then left of our manufacturing industry.0
