How are you with the bank where you have your current account? If you went in with the contract for your new job and speak to a manager (really depends on the bank as not all are personal these days - HSBC better than Alliance and Leicester for example) - they may offer you a small overdraft or increase your existing limit to cover the first month's work. Anything where the interest rate is worked out annually (credit card, overdraft) is always going to be better for this sort of thing than short term credit like a payday loan.

Or could you approach family? While it's awkward, I bet they'll be pleased you've got a job and want to help you (although if they're brassic themselves this approach doesn't go far).

Or could you sell anything on ebay?
  • tried HSBC and they wont up my overdraft

not sure what to do really, don't like asking my family already living here rent free at the moment.

really annoying the gap between JSA and first wage can see why people don't bother getting a job

If you MUST use a payday loan (i.e, no one else can help and you can't negotiate with your creditors) then quickquid are fine.

However if you go through topcashback and search for Paydayuk then you can offset the interest charge against the cashback (you'll get the cashback, £50, in a couple of months).

Either that or look for a shop called 'the money shop' they do payday loans with about 300% interest rather than the customary 1000%+ usually offered.

If you go the topcashback route, send me a PM and if you're not a member I will happily refer you. (I get £2.50 as well!)
