Statute Barred Debts help

OK so I called Natwest Customer Services this morning to see if they could give me any details of last contact/payment etc. I didn't have the account number and spoke to 3 different departments and they couldn't find any record of me by name or address. Is this usual when a debt has been sold on? They advised me to go to my local branch to see if they had any archives of information.0
