how do ppl survive on maternity pay in northern ireland

One thing I learnt this week and was fairly surprised by is that my friend who lives in the South of Ireland gets 280 euro per week as 'statutory' maternity pay, thought that was quite generous in comparison to ours!0

But in the republic it is only paid for 26 weeks. And the weekly rate is based on your income. 280 Euro would be the maximum and the minimum is 230 Euro a week.
So all in all not too different from here. Just looks a bit more at the moment due to the low £.0
