Cheap and cheerful summer tops

I noticed the other day that many of my white/light coloured t-shirts had seen better days. As money is very tight I was concerned about how I would go about updating our (myself, OH, daughter 6, son 13) summer wardrobe.
Whilst wandering around Tesco I had a:j moment. They have very cheap plain t-shirts around £1.50 or so, which I could make look a little more interesting.
I bought 2 t-shirts for each about £11.00 altogether and then I went and bought 4 tubs of fabric paint £8.00. Total spend £19.00 for 8 original t-shirts
Myself and the 6 year old had fun painting on the t-shirts. We got the inspiration for her t-shirts from a catalogue. The bedding section!! The inspiration for my OH one came from a image search on google.
So far we've painted 4 t-shirts and I have heaps of paint left over.
Even if you think you can't draw to save you life have a go!, my daughter had a great time doing her t-shirts!

What a lovely idea - that design is brilliant!
We did something like this a few years ago. One afternoon I asked my boys to design a t-shirt each using certain colours on a white background. They had to do back & front. they quite enjoyed doing that, but they had a surprise, cos the next afternoon I presented them with their designs, a white t-shirt each & a pack of fabric pens! They had a great time making their own designer t-shirts!0 -
While queuing at the airport recently to return home the family in front of us had obviously been busy with fabric paint on their suitcases and each of the children had customised their own bog standard black suitcases for instant recognition.
I thought it was a great idea and fun to do in the run up to a family holiday:)0 -
Tescos have 4 fabric markers for 67p at the moment. Grab em because at that price I think they must be discontinuing them. They are chunky enough to be used by under 5's. (guess who did a sure start workshop recently lol!)
http://www.yellowmoon.co.uk do lovely puffa paints and fabric paints at a reasonable price too. Some of the profit goes to your school so a good place to get craft stuff.0 -
I've planned to do this as part of my daughter's birthday party. It'll keep them amused for a while when they get here and they've made their own party bags :T:smileyhea0
