The origianl giver could have sold it but chose to Freecycle. Janine was offered money for it, she didn't ask. Once Freecycle goods are recieved, the recipient is at liberty to do with them what they wich.
She's perfectly okay to sell it!
  • I thoroughly agree with selling it to her colleague - but for £20 max. That or take the £50 and donate half to charity. That way everyone's a winner!

There's no way I could accept money for something I got for free - she should give it away, and if she doesn't then she is a money-grabber.

I often give things to friends that I don't need anymore, and although they offer me money, there is no way I will accept it.

I'd either give it away, or if the person insisted on giving them some money (some people do), then give it to Archie, as he's giving her an even better TV - he's the only one profiting then at that point, and it has nothing to do with Freecycle.
  • I am a Freegle (formerly Freecycle) moderator and I wouldn't have any problem with this. She didn't get the TV with the intention of selling it, so it's her good fortune to be given two TVs within a short period of time.

The main purpose of Freegle and Freecycle is to keep stuff out of landfill.

I have sold unwanted Christmas presents before so in that way there is no difference selling a TV she got free. When it's a work colleague or friend that is a bit bad though and I don't think I could sell something I got off Freecycle to a friend/colleague/family member making a profit. I could probably sell to a stranger though.

I don't give a toss what they do with it as long as it does not end up in a landfill. If they want to make a profit out of selling it on, so what and good luck to them.

She should give the television to her workmate: she received it for free and should pass it along to someone else in the same manner.

I don't think that would be out of order to sell the TV. she did not get it in the first place with the intention of making money on it. The TV is still not being thrown away, which is the environental ethos of Freecycle. People often put things on Freecycle rther than go through the bother of selling and feel they are too good to take to the tip. When I give things away, I am just pleased that people pick them up quickly.
Janine will no doubt use the £50 to get something else she needs. No one is losing out here, everyone seems to get what they want and two TV's are kept out of the skip!!!!
    Keep on trucking!
  • How sad that we should even consider that she should profit purely financially from something that had been given to her.:o Of course she should donate it back to Freecycle!
