Council tax on 2 properties

Hi I have my interview next week just wanted to check something. I pay council tax on my current rented home which i put in my SOA I also own a house with my ex which neither of us live in and will be giving back to halifax for voluntary repo. I didnt realise we would still be liable for council tax until its sold (read that on here somewhere) when i have my interview should i get the additional council tax or my half of it addedd into SOA and would they allow this?
My other question is do we need to still pay building insurance on mortgaged house up until vol repo and possibly after til its sold? However it would be unoccupied for more than 30 days breaking current obligations of existing buildings insurance.
I did see somewhere that you can get 6 months without paying council tax if property is unfurnished/unoccupied is this correct?
Im not comfortable relying on my ex for his half of payments of insurance and tax so would full amount be acceptable added in to SOA or would OR question my ex's contribution?
I just dont want to be left with no money if any extra costs pop up!
Any advice appreciated!!

Yes, you can get a reduction/exemption for a period on the council tax as its empty. Call the council tax office and get this sorted out.
The OR will not permit you to cover your ex's bills on the property. The ctax is sorted really once you call them and the remainder of the insurance will have to come out of your surplus; put your half down though.0 -
Hi marmalady, as sky light says you can get a council tax exemption for council tax if the property is empty and unlived in.0
