Yes. Most of us opened an account before BR (A basic one like the Cashminder). Things still need paying etc. Now, the account is technically (under law) supposed to be closed at the point of BR. But most ORs have no interest in an account you have opened because of BR and with no debt on it they dont really care. There is the odd exception to the rule with ORs though..... Co-Op are BR friendly and they allow the account to remain open if the OR has no interest in it.
Get yourself sorted out before BR and all DDs transfered etc. Ensure you tell the LILA that this account has been opened only because of going BR and ask them if you can keep it; to be polite and keep on their good side.0 -
I agree with skylight about opening a new account. We go BR in November but we have opened a Coop Casminder account and have transferred all our incomings into this account, and at the moment we are waiting for confirmation that our DD/SO`s have been transferred as well. All the advice seems to suggest this is the way to do it, if you do not want your account/s frozen.:pB&SC No. 298

I set up my cashminder account and they knew I was going br the next week and did not have a problem with it. In my or interview yesterday told they would write to Co-op just so the bank knows I am allowed the account.0

As well as the Co-op Cashminder account, the other alternative is the Barclays Cash Card Account. I highly recommend it. You only need one piece of ID (passport or driving licence), while for Co-op you need two. Your account gets opened immediately with the account details. Unlike some banks, you need to wait a few days to know your account details.
Barclays has more branchces than Co-op. It will be more convinient when you need branch access.0 -

As far as I know, and I may be wrong, the Barclays account does not allow you to service it on line. Once you are flagged as BR this service is taken away from you, whilst the Coop still lets you use it online.:pB&SC No. 298

I think I will have to take the bankruptcy route as I am about to become unemployed, I,ve been on a dmp with cccs for a couple of months but I will not be able to continue this when the job goes. When I started to do something about my debt I opened a basic cash account with Lloyds tsb which does not allow me a cheque book or overdraft. Can anyone advise if this account will be ok when I'm made bankrupt. Thanks0

Seh....no guarantee the account will be left alone...as lloyds along with many more basic accounts are NOT usually BR freindly.....the only two your guaranteed an account with would be co-op or barclays...sorryWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0
