If I wasn't a vegetarian I don't think I would have a problem as long as it was fresh.Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015

I wouldn't have a problem with it in theory, even if it was a dog or cat. I'd really quite like to try hedgehog and Im guessing this is the only way I'd do it.
However, is it really safe to eat roadkill?0 -
I've eaten roadkill - back when I lived in the country a neighbour struck a deer which he then took to the butcher who prepared it (in return for half, which I assume he had personally...). He took round a plate of venison burgers to our BBQ and they were just awesome.0

I'd gladly eat roadkill if it was a pheasant or deer etc, but I don't really want to eat someone's beloved cat or dog0

What if it was a cat or dog that the owner didn't particularly like?0

I have eaten roadkill but I didn't know until later it was in Italy on a ski trip in a fairly dodgy hotel in the late 70's lol I think it was wild horse but we just thought it was tough steak at the time. I don't eat rabbit and I can't see the attraction of birds smaller than a large chicken so knowingly I wouldn't eat it.0

I often joke to my DH when we're travelling and see a squishy in the road "look, there's tonights dinner!" but I don't think I could bring myself to actually eat it.
However if it was dished up to me without me knowing that would be a bit different.Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,340.34 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £155 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £148.59 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -
There is a school of thought - and this was discussed in a BBC4 programme c.Jan 2007 about Road kill, in which it would be valid to eat Road kill whilst you are a vegetarian. An example. I never eat chicken because of the way they are harvested like a crop which I think is an ethical issue for me. Go free range they cry - I could not do so as I cannot eat something that has been specifically killed for me, but if an animal has been killed - despite being given a sporting chance - then that is OK as it is a source of protein. Whoever on the forum thinks that Road Kill is disgusting have not fully understood these ethics. If one wants to take it to an extreme i.e cannibalism, well..there are certain ethical pro's and cons.0

A technical point- I'm not certain, but I think that picking up pheasant roadkill is classed as poaching, and is illegal.
only illegal if you were the one who squished it - to stop people doing it deliberately to get free pheasant. once it's already dead, it's anyone's.....0
