Old debts

  • It worked for me. I had forgotten about one and it has now gone from my credit report. It was for a catalogue and I got a few letters after the initial default but then nothing, so forgot about it until got a credit report about 18 months ago. I panicked a little at the time but was in my "denial" period and didn't want to acknowledge it. When I came on here and decided to take the debt bull by the horns I had found it had gone !! I would leave well alone for now to be honest, as it has been so long. Although I think the 6 years runs from the last contact. You can just wait and see. They will get in touch if they want to !

    Hi
I looked on the Debtline website and got the following information
    **
The agency will leave the information on your file for up to six years. Information held by agencies include:
Credit Accounts "in default". These details are deleted after 6 years from the date of default.
Settled Accounts. These are deleted 6 years from the date the account is settled or the last payment made unless a "default" was registered.
This should mean that even if you settle a debt less than 6 years after default, the debt will be removed from your file 6 years from the date you defaulted.
Bankruptcy orders. These are usually deleted 6 years from the date of the Bankruptcy Order but may be kept on the file for longer.
Sheriff court decrees. These are deleted after 6 years from the date of Decree.

I am now going to write to the credit agency and ask them to remove the files from 1999 and early 2000.
I am over the moon- I cant believe it!!!
