We've made some fairy cakes for my son to take into school tomorrow. They are cooling in the kitchen but we aren't icing them till the morning. How do I store the cakes until then and can I make the icing (basic stuff) now and store it in the fridge until tomorrow? Thanks
Just hope I don't sleep in now

I'd store the fairy cakes in a tin, if I were you - or a couple of 'tupperware style' containers.
I wouldn't pre-mix the icing tonight - in my experience it hardens in the bowl.
You may have to set your alarm a bit earlier than usual - will need to mix the icing, top the cakes and allow them dry a little, before taking them in school. Once they're iced, you won't be able to put them on top of each other or the icing will stick to the bottom of the top ones - IYKWIM.
When my kids were in infant school, I used to take fairy cakes in for their birthdays and also for cakestalls for sales days - always grabbed any biscuit tins that were going begging. Once people know that you want them, they will come from everybody around.0 -
If by fairy cakes you mean cup cakes, I'd be tempted to make up a batch of runny icing now and spread it over the tops (all the way to the edges) to harden overnight.
If fairy cakes (with wings), then buttercream stores quite well in the fridge.import this0 -
Thanks
I've put the cakes in a tupaware and I'll make the icing/ice them early in the morning. We would of done them tonight but the cakes were still too warm and my son was asleep on his feet. I would of done them myself tonight but he's sooo keen to do them himself I can't really say no.
I got rid of all the old biscuit tins I hadthey were taking up so much room in the cupboard... I'll find something in the morning when I'm staggering round covered in green icing.
Thanks againEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0
