Bankrupt - What happens if pregnant/JSA/travel???

Hello People!

Will I be able to go bankrupt if i'm paying most of my creditors token payments even though I really can't afford it since all of my JSA goes to bills and debts? My child tax credit and child benefit goes to my child and food. How much do you need to be able to be under to be able to file a petition?

I'm concern that if I am able to go bankrupt, say within a few months after that I find a job and the OR makes me pay money to my creditors because of the surplus each month, I will not have any money from my job for the usual ie. holidays and things for my child.

I know I would need a surplus over £100 but I'm likely to have that if I get a job in my chosen field.

What is the likelihood of IPO while an undischarged bankruptcy is taking place?

Also, while undischarged - what happens if pregnant and you leave your job for your birth before you are finally discharged?

Lastly, is it true that you can not travel aboard and when does this end - after 6 years? I would only be going to see my partner and he would be paying.

Thanks for your replies.

I know I would need a surplus over £100 but I'm likely to have that if I get a job in my chosen field. But don't forget, if you get a job your standard of living will be much better than when you'be been scraping by while in debt, by the time all your reasonable outgoings have been taken into account you may not have as large as surplus as you think.

What is the likelihood of IPO while an undischarged bankruptcy is taking place? You have to tell the OR of any change in circumstances, if you do go over £100 it's highly likely you will get an IPA

Also, while undischarged - what happens if pregnant and you leave your job for your birth before you are finally discharged? Not sure what you mean by 'what happens'. If you mean if you have an IPA, if your salary drops because you're on mat leave the IPA will be suspended.

Lastly, is it true that you can not travel aboard and when does this end - after 6 years? I would only be going to see my partner and he would be paying. Absolutley not true, you can travel as normal to anywhere you want and can even move abroad if you want to.

    Thanks for your replies.

    Hope that helps some

  • Oh thanks so much. I forgot about my other outgoings since I have only been spending money on bills/debts/food and nothing else. C

    Cheers Peachyprice! :)
