They can be really awkward- especially if it was a sale item. They should let you exchange at the most recent selling price but the last time I tried to get a credit note they refused saying it was a "Sale" item and I could only exchange. Bit of a bummer as it meant it was worth less than I paid and there was nothing I wanted at the time for that price......0

I have a similar problem OH bought two wool jumpers from debenhams but "we" have lost the receipt anyway when "we" washed the first one following instructions it would now fit action man!
I daren't wash the other one and I know I could hand wash it but don't really want to have to go through that every time he wears it through the winter.
What do you think my chances are of getting a credit note?0 -

I think the chances of getting a credit note are zero and the chances of getting a full refund are 100%. The item or instructions are faulty. They will argue they are not. After the first exchange of emails if CS do not just pay you out, put them on a price per email or hour of your time as it should not require you to take more than 1 visit / email or 2 at the most to have this resolved.
They will argue it is your machine which magically screwed up for this one item and then went back to being perfectly normal ever since. Just say you washed other similar items in the same wash and they are ok. Their move. If they don't play ball, email the CEO and put them in the small claims.0 -

Hi I bought a pair of pj's from debenhams, which were no good for my DD so I took them back yesterday with a receipt, I was thinking that I could just have a refund!
The pj's were in the sale and I was told that i could only have an exchange and if there was nothing I could find I would of had to take them home and go back to the store another day. I found the SA very stuck up, so I told her there was a seem coming away from the bottoms as i forgot about that, as the main reason I was taking them back was because they were too small. So I showed her the seem and was then given a refund of the bottoms but not the top!
I don't agree that you can't have a refund on a sale item, (other shops allow it) fair enough if I paid next to nothing for the pj's! but they were still expensive.
Debenhams are very awkward in my opinion.0 -
They are very awkward. I totally agree. I always put sale things on my debenhams card now purely as you can get a full refund. I've had several arguments in store before about their stupid policy. Unfortunately though they don't HAVE to refund items because we change our minds even though the vast majority of shops will. Surely in this day and age they should be being as flexible as possible rather than making you think twice about buying something because of their stupid refund policy.
The worst argument I had was over a top reduced by 70% that had ties to fasten at the side. I didn't spot when i bought it that one of them had completely come away and only held on because it was knotted to the other one (Wraparound style top). I took it back, she insinuated I'd done it myself. Then told me it would only be a simple repair and I only paid £11 for it anyway. Eventually she gave me 20% of the price back but as I got so lost in the entire argument and was gobsmacked at the way I was spoken to I just took it. Never, ever again. Never seen her in there again either else I'd have definitely noted her name and complained. Still can't believe it now.0 -
Debenhams have always been funny with me too
Anything in the sale that is reduced by 50% or more you cant get your money back only an exchange0
