Car damaged down south - help needed/anyone with similar experience?

Hi, I was parked in a 5-star hotel's carpark whilst watching the International Poker Open last Friday and sustained a sizeable dent which is going to cost just below £1000 to fix (rear passenger door needs replaced by no damage elsewhere).
I have emailed the hotel who seem to be quite co-operative in looking at their CCTV and await a response as to how this happened.
What is the legal position if the person lives in ROI and I live in Northern Ireland/UK regarding insurance and liability? Help much needed/appreciated!!

I as hit by a southern reg truck in Belfast city centre, the driver did not stop - so I got the reg number and description of the truck and reported to Antrim road police station.


The PSNI were able to find the guy via my details and description of vehicle, but the he guy said I made the whole incident up - the PSNI could do nothing because he lived in the south. I had to use my own insurance to pay for damage.


You may have more luck if you get CCTV footage to back up the claim - hoping you do get a clear view of the reg.
