It is a job and people have lives outside of the workplace and do like to be able to plan them in advance. No harm in negotiating or clarifying the situation between the employer and the employee.
No need to get shafted every time by the company neither should the employee take the p!ss all the time.0 -
Sorry but some of the answers here makes it obvious why so many unemployed (or unemployable) people come to these forums.
Take a bit of pride in your work. That doesnt mean you have to be at their beck and call. It just means that you need to realise how lucky you are to work in the forst instance.
If i said no all the time i went over my 8hours a day/40 hours per week, i wouldn't be doing the job i am now.

Hit the thanks button in error but be that as it may, as has already been pointed out some comprise is always welcome and I hate the "there are hundreds unemployed who would do your job attitude" that some posters seem to think absolves management of any responsibilities to their workers.0
